What is Quantum Computing?

The computing power of the smartphone in your pocket is equal to the computing power of all the computers in a country’s military computer room 50 years ago today. We have made such amazing advances in computer technology.

However, there are still some deficiencies in conventional general computers. There are some problems that a normal computer cannot solve. Many experts believe that this is why we need quantum computers.

Limitations Of Classical Computers

The switching and memory units of computers are known as transistors. Its size has gone from small to almost atomic in size. So the time has come for us to think anew about computers.

Although classical computers still provide excellent performance in many tasks. But conventional computers actually work in the same way as ordinary calculators. Only zeros and ones (0 and 1) can command a conventional computer. And this command works only through predefined instructions.

Now quantum computers will suddenly take over all the functions of classical computers, not so. Quantum computers can perform large and complex tasks that cannot be performed by ordinary classical computers.

Again, in this era of big data, the amount of data we have to work with is many times more than before. Hence the demand for higher capacity transistors is being created.

On the other hand, the normal computers we use can only do one specific task at a time. So these computers take a lot of time to solve complex problems. Again, solving some problems requires a huge amount of energy and time, which is completely beyond the capabilities of ordinary computers. It is believed that all such problems can be solved with quantum computers.

The Power Of Quantum Computers

In the world of atoms or smaller particles, many things happen that do not match our expectations. In the quantum world, a particle can be in different states at the same time. And quantum computers use this religion of particles.

A normal computer works with bits. And the calculation of quantum computer work is qubits (Qubits). To understand the difference between them, let’s imagine a sphere. A bit can reside in either pole (0 or 1) of the two poles of the sphere. But qubits can be anywhere on the sphere. Thus, quantum computers using qubits can store large amounts of data, or information, while consuming less energy than conventional computers.

In the quantum world where the normal laws of physics no longer apply, we can build processors that can operate a million or more times faster than our normal processors. Although it sounds great, building such a computer is also a big challenge.
