How The Smart City Of The Future Will Work

Half of the world’s people now live in cities. According to the United Nations, the number of people living in cities will increase by 68 percent by 2050, and an additional 2.5 billion people will start living in urban areas.

In this way, with the increase of city dwellers, new urbanization is starting in many parts of the world. As a result, the question is emerging in people’s minds that how much sustainable and environmentally friendly development is possible as a result of such rapid urbanization?

The answer to the question of how cities around the world will cope with this rapid population growth, the first solution that comes to mind is technology. Ever since the Industrial Revolution, economic growth has been driven by technology. That means the future of our cities as well as our economy is tied to technology.

Meanwhile, with the increase in the population of the city, the demand for various infrastructure development of the city is also being created. And improving the quality of life of the residents is very well related to the whole issue.

The two technologies that will contribute the most to the smart city of the future are:

Internet of Things (IOT): IoT is basically a concept of computing. Through this the daily used devices or other things will be connected to the internet. At the same time, those devices will be connected to each other.

Big Data: Big data refers to a large set of data. This vast data will be analyzed mathematically to determine various aspects of human behavior, work patterns, customs and relationships.

Using IoT and Big Data technology, Smart City will control the surrounding environment. Due to which our life will become easier.

What Is Smart City?

Generally, smart city refers to an urban management, where services are provided to the residents using technology and various problems of the city are solved.

The benefits that smart cities offer include improved communication systems, various social services, sustainable development and opportunities for citizens to voice their opinions.

A smart city aims to set effective policies for the city. At the same time, it also aims to reduce social damage and problems of citizens, improve social and economic conditions and establish a balanced social system.

The word “smart” in “smart city” does not refer to any characteristic of the city, but rather to consider a type of tool or system.

The term “smart” refers to the capacity of the city. The real purpose of this capability is to make citizens happy and work easier.

However, the features of a smart city cannot be determined only by the extent to which the citizens are given facilities by the government. Rather, active participation of citizens in solving various problems is also valued as a feature of smart cities.

The idea behind the smart city is that the city is built around the citizens.

How Smart City Will Work

Smart cities will use different technologies to observe how they are working. At the same time, various information will be collected from the surrounding environment. Everything falls under this observation. Many things like the air and water quality of the city or the radiation from the sun will be monitored in the smart city.

With the help of this information, the authorities can take necessary steps to deal with any kind of impending danger.

One of the features of a smart city is the placement of sensors on roads. By understanding the traffic jam condition from this sensor, it will be decided when and how much free space should be allocated for car parking.

These sensors can help passengers and drivers know when the next bus will arrive. At the same time, by measuring the quality of water and air, it can provide information on various topics including weather.

Besides, environment-friendly development will also be possible with the help of these sensors. For example, this sensor can save electricity by turning off street lamps when there are no pedestrians on the road.

An “intelligent bus network” has recently been developed in Barcelona using data. The intelligent bus network is built on the basis of collecting data on how passengers are using public transport. The new network is much more efficient than conventional bus services. With this, 95% of the city’s residents are getting better quality bus services. Again, passengers do not have to wait in line for a long time for the bus. Bus stops covered by this service are also connected to other transportation networks.

GPS sensors are also being used to provide emergency medical services in Barcelona. First, the emergency ambulance is identified with the help of traffic lights. And then the ambulance is guided while moving through the streets of the city, so that emergency services can be provided to the citizens before any major danger occurs.
