‘Green computing’ to save the world from environmental pollution

Computers are now an essential part of our daily lives. People of all ages have to use computers for various purposes. And with the increase in the number of users, the rate of computer sales is also increasing. For example, global desktop, notebook and workstation sales have increased by 55% this year. In other words, this year has seen the highest rate of computer sales compared to the last decade.

But much of the work, from manufacturing these computer devices to disposing of used and discarded devices, is harmful to the environment. For example, using a computer consumes a lot of electricity. And this energy generates a lot of carbon dioxide. Also, if these devices are not recycled or reused properly, it can cause environmental pollution.

Green computing can go a long way in counteracting these negative effects of computer use. Through green computing, it is possible to reduce the various harmful effects of computing on the environment. The concept of green computing is based on a number of factors. Including:

• ‘Energy Efficiency’ or efficient use of electricity

• Use of environmentally friendly hardware and software

• Reducing the use of environmentally harmful substances in making computers

• Use of recycled or recycled materials

• Ensure that the device can be used in the long run

In short, the main purpose of green computing is to reduce the impact of technology on the environment. That is why green computing includes the introduction of sustainable products such as low energy consumption or waste reduction in the technology sector.

Considering the budget, eco-friendly computing can reduce energy and operating costs by up to 30%.

New technologies like ‘Edge Computing’ or ‘Fog Computing’ are good solutions for saving energy. In these technologies, the work of computing is shared among the users. Which reduces the amount of power consumption in the entire network.

The Green 500 is a rating of supercomputers that is published twice a year.

As of June of this year, the Japanese computer named “MN-3 Deep Learning Supercomputer” topped the list. This is now called the most efficient supercomputer in the world. The computer can be seen in the picture.
